Old, folk art carved salamander fishing decoy

My most recent purchase that was sold/misidentified as a turtle decoy.  Used for ice fishing/spear fishing.  It is just under 10 inches long and has a fantastic patina, tack eyes and mellowed paint.  I'm by no means an expert in this field, but this appears to be a relatively unusual piece based on age and form - not a lot of comparable examples.  Plus, what a happy little face!
